Team Beanstream news, weather and sports

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Zippy December, and general holiday greetings to all our friends and partners! We hope this is a great season for you – it has been for us, and we have a few cool things to tell you about…

Token What’s a Beanstream?

Not all of our 14,000 merchants and partners know the diversity of products and services that are available through Beanstream. Sometimes we hear things like, ”I had no idea you guys did that!” and ”Hey, I could use that service!” when we’re on the road and at events. What about you? What services might you be missing out on? Dreamy Product Manager Ryan Stewart explains all…

Gears Beanstream tech

Quebec tax table change: On November 14, the Province of Quebec confirmed previously-released information about changes to the QST, which will further harmonize the QST rules with the federal GST rules. The most significant changes are:

  • The QST tax rate will increase to 9.975% (from 9.5%)
  • The QST will no longer apply to the GST (i.e. QST will apply to the price not including the GST)
  • Financial services will become QST-exempt supplies and financial institutions will no longer be entitled to claim input tax refunds for the QST paid related to their QST-exempt financial services

Beanstream’s tax tables have been updated to reflect these changes. Merchants who use our eStore product will need to log in to the online member area and check that they are charging the right tax rate to their Quebec-based customers.

Export reports to Excel: You requested it, you got it! Feedback in the Beanstream customer survey asked for the ability to download reports from the online member area in MS Excel format. Done! Now you have more choice for how you review your report data, up to at least 300,000 records.

Getting interpersonal with computers
Tracey DeRyck, director of development

How do you know a developer is an extrovert? According to the joke it is because they look at YOUR shoes when they talk to you. In the case of Tracey DeRyck, Beanstream’s extroverted Director of Development, nothing could be further from the truth. Her direct style and contagious laughter prompt Beanstream’s team of developers to be just that – a team.

Tracey always knew she was a people-person but it was an aptitude test which started her computer career. Coming from a family where the only expectation was to graduate high school, she discovered waitressing was not a good way for a young single mother to make a living.

Gears Online member area revamp

Beanstream merchants, partners, and integrators, lend us your ear!

Actually, we want to lend you our ears…

The details are in the video, but the gist is we’re looking for your input on how to improve the Beanstream online member area, where you access detailed transaction reports, configure your settings, and learn about important news and announcements.

  • What works for you? What doesn’t?
  • What features, functions and layout meets your needs?

Email us your thoughts anytime – we’d love to hear from you!

Digital River logo Digital River and Beanstream

Digital River logo

As you know, over the past couple of months Digital River has been working towards acquiring Beanstream. In the fall a definitive agreement was signed whereby DR will acquire all of the shares of Beanstream’s parent company, LML Payment Systems Corp. Subject to shareholder and other regulatory approvals, we expect that the transaction with Digital River will close early in the new year.

What does this mean for you? First, Beanstream’s secret sauce of innovative thinking, bullet-proof payment systems, and world-class customer service will remain in place, but now has access to a bigger stage and global opportunities. Second, your current account, contract and terms of service with Beanstream will remain unchanged, and at this time Beanstream will continue to provide its own exclusive suite of products and services. These are exciting times for us, with tremendous opportunities!

Stay tuned for more information in early January!
